“States of (dis)connectedness” (#351: Project 365 Sketches)
2013, Tue 17 Dec. Today I found myself thinking how city dwellers have adapted to urban confines. We seem perfectly comfortable crammed into a train full of strangers. Part of the coping mechanism is to create little invisible bubbles of our own space. It’s so easy to shut things out with the mobile device. Hardly surprising. There’s a social price to pay for such close proximity with strangers. So we find ourselves disconnecting from things, through devices invented to increased our connectivity, in order to retain our sanity. We inadvertently create an illusion of connectedness with technology at our disposal.
