Poem: Wondering Why

Wondering Why

Many times I wonder
Just what is it
That I cannot let go?

Why do my shoulders
Grow heavier with
Each passing year?

Why do I remember
Less of happiness
But more of my fears?

Perhaps the problem
Has always been
My wondering

The dictionary defines the verb “wonder” as (1) a feeling of awe, marvel, surprise; or (2) to be filled with curiosity or doubt. Seems to be like a classic case of whether we see the glass as half- full or half-empty. So the next time I “wonder why”, it ought to be a feeling of the former and less of the latter.
