Cut out the silhouettes of attack helicopters coming in low, firing on the communications towers.

It’s supposed to look like an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

Cut the words “AMTRAK” from a coloured page. Note: I don’t mean the American train company.

For some reason, I liked the word “AMTRAK”. The silhouettes of the racing cars (looking like F1s) were from other appropriately coloured pages from a magazine.

I think most Star Wars fans would notice the resemblance to Luke Skywalker’s garb from Return of the Jedi. I took a page out of the graphic novel version as practice. Substituted the light saber with a flaming sword.

It was the school holidays period. I was reading lots of fantasy novels borrowed from the public library. In fact, looking at what I scribbled as part of the illustration (you just might be able to make it out, from the larger image), I must have been reading Frank Herbert’s “Dune” : )

1989 (Oct) Gear of the 23rd Century Police Force

Some doodling from my youth. Back then, these were my notion of advanced riot protection gear. They were inspired by the baseball protective gear (even the cap) I saw on TV.

Now it’s readily apparent that in the 23rd Century, these would have been antique pieces rather than advanced tech.

The image was from a set of illustrations I produced in 2005, for the opening of Bukit Merah Public Library (then known as Bukit Merah Community Library).
